Aggie Governor Rick Perry can’t resist trying to meddle in the academic affairs of UT-Austin. Will Republican and Democratic Longhorns stand up to him yet again? Governor Rick Perry and lackey UT-System Chancellor Francisco G. Cigarroa asked for UT-Austin President Bill Powers resignation during the 4th of July holiday weekend. According to published reports, he said no.
Under Bill Powers leadership, the University of Texas at Austin is ranked one of the top 25 universities in the worldand is more racially and ethnically diverse than ever before. President Powers was also elected president of theprestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), an invite-only partnership of the nation’s 61 leading colleges and universities.
The UT-Austin faculty are paying attention and we support President Powers. Here is the letter of unequivocal support from the UT-Austin faculty.
