UFT calls for moratorium on high-stakes for Common Core tests
Michael Mulgrew speaking at UFT headquarters in January after evaluations talks broke down between the union and the city. City schools are just a few months into implementing new teacher evaluations, but the teachers union is already hoping to slow things down. Citing the many schools that still have incomplete curriculum that students will be expected to master to pass the 2014 state tests, the

Might Makes Right When Viewing LAUSD and California Nepotism…..or Does It?
By Ellen Lubic, educator and angry taxpayer. She is Director of Joining Forces for Education, a new non-profit group based in Los Angeles. Yesterday, the Los Angeles Times printed two stories that affect public school education, and those who ‘dabble’ in it.  One was by journalist Howard Blume on the Billion Dollar iPad scandal at LAUSD, and the other was written as an op-ed team by Eli Broad and

How Social Media Has Given Educators a Voice
Through the use of social media, teachers across the country are able to connect and collaborate around national public education issues. Over the past year, many educators have joined social media sites and found their voice not to share teaching tips or connect their classrooms, but to speak out against what they see as attacks on public education, schools and children. Do Districts Help Stressed Out Teachers? Apparently Not.
According to a recent survey published by Metlife, stress levels among American teachers have increased sharply, and job satisfaction has dwindled to its lowest level in 25 years. Huffington Post recently asked teachers on its Twitter and Facebook pages if they received any support from their districts in helping them manage stress. Here’s what they had to say. The statistics on cyberbullying
Larry Magid says: it didn’t surprise me to hear the spokesperson for the monitoring app claim that 70 percent of kids had been cyberbullied. Though not all are guilty of this, it’s not uncommon to hear such exaggerations from companies (and some agencies and non-profits) in the Internet safety space. While any case of cyberbullying is bad, the fact is that the statistics are nowhere near as dire.

The Illinois State Board Of Education Is Intimidated By — Administrators ?
The Illinois State Board of Education isn’t going to publish the full results of a previous survey of schools.  The survey was meant to gather candid information about the inner workings of public schools and spur improvements. The Board’s decision to withhold some of the information came after months of criticism from administrators. Wow, the State Board must be populated by a bunch of wimps. Eit

Vermont Report: Shaping the Soul of a School
By Deborah Fallows I found Principal Brian Williams in the lunchroom of the Sustainability Academy, a pre-K – 5 magnet school in the Old North End of Burlington, Vermont. He was easy to spot, the biggest guy in the room, sitting on a very small chair, talking with an 8-year-old tousled-haired boy who was having trouble with his writing. It was noontime, and Principal Williams asked me if I would

Say NO to UFT Lame Attempt to Derail Opposition to Eval System and Common Core
UFT PRAISES COMMON CORE; CALLS FOR MORITORIUM ON JUDGING TEACHERS, SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS ON TESTS WHILE SAYING NOTHING ABOUT PUNITIVE DANIELSON OBSERVATIONS ... The Miseducation of Missed Chances From NBC's Miseducation Nation
What happened if NBC's Miseducation Nation put on a show and only mindless sycophants showed? Oh wait. It happened. This past Sunday. That's who Miseducation Nations plays to. Those that are uninformed and don't wish to learn the truth. The guess of The Crack Team here at SBSB why anyone would go to Miseducation Nation is to curry favor with upper echelon types and to show that, "Hey, look
