The California state education budget has been cut by billions of dollars in the past 3 years. Now, more budget cuts - the so called "trigger cuts" - are attacking California schools from all sides. Currently schools are losing their busing so a large percentage of children will not be able to get to their current school. Cutting bus transportation will substantially eliminate the cultural and educational diversity in successful magnet schools. This violates federal desegregation orders and interferes with California's constitutional guarantee that all students receive a free and equitable education. On top of that, some schools are losing Federal funds set aside for economically disadvantaged children - Title 1 funds - monies that can make up 90% of a school's budget, leaving them devastated and unable to function.
